Thumbscrew on Curt Bike Rack 18030
Question:
I just received my rack and assembled it with no trouble, I cant figure out what the wingnut that goes into the shank and through the plastic piece inside the shank is for though. I see that wingnut in pictures of the rack on your site but still cant figure it out. There is no mention of it in the instructions. It doesnt even thread into the hole it just slides out, maybe the threads in the hole are stripped? The way it is it will fall out the first or second bump I hit. Do you have any idea what it is for? I attached a couple of pictures.

Expert Reply:
The wingnut is a thumbscrew that should have arrived already in the shank of the Curt 4 Bike Rack # C18030 and definitely not just falling out. It helps stabilize the rack and as you can see at about the 1:30 mark of the video I linked for you, is something you would need to unscrew a bit in order to allow the bike rack to tilt down.
