Coupler Latch Adjustability on Demco Brake Actuating Coupler # 8605001
Question:
Hello, I see in the pictures and on my coupler there is lock tight on the threads underneath on the coupler lock. Is this lock tab adjustable? Should the lock tab be completely underneath the ball? My coupler lock tab sits about 3/4 of the way down the ball.

The coupler latch assembly shown in the attached dimension photo shows the latch in the open position of # 8605001. When the coupler trigger latch is closed the wedge simply needs to be on the underside of the hitch ball. As long as you can't lift the coupler off of the ball and the connection stays secure, your coupler latch is working correctly. 3/4 of the way down the hitch ball is about right in most cases.
If there is not a good connection meaning you can lift the coupler while the latch is locked and get a clank or if the connection allows you to completely lift the coupler off when the trigger latch is locked, then you will need to adjust the latch for proper connection with the nut on the underside of the coupler.
The newest model of the # 8605001 is the # DM72VR.
