Troubleshooting Installation of Tekonsha 7-Way Wiring Harness 118286 in 2018 Honda Pilot
Question:
I installed Tekonsha trailer harness 118274 in my 2018 Honda Pilot no backup sensors but no lights work on my trailer. I checked all connections and they seem good. All fuses were installed according to video directions The directions also said something about resetting the electrical system by removing the key from the ignition. But our pilot is a keyless start. What do I do now?

To begin troubleshooting your Pilot you will want to reset the electrical system. Since it has the keyless ignition, you can reset the vehicle by disconnecting the battery negative terminal and waiting a few minutes. Then re-attach the cable. Do this before you conduct the signal testing.
Since you installed all fuses (both in the engine compartment and in the receptacle on the harness near the converter box) and all of your connectors are fully seated together what I suggest is testing the wiring leading into the converter. These are the wires that are NOT inside the protective wire loom; those inside the loom are for the converter's output to the 7-way.
Apply a circuit tester like # PTW2992 or # PTW2993 to the wiring leading into the converter to see if the vehicle's own lighting signals are reaching it. If no signals go into the converter, then none can come out. I attached videos of both testers for you to check out.
You can also check the white ground wire (which has a ring terminal) to ensure it is secured to a clean bare metal spot on the vehicle. A solid ground connection is critical to any wiring harness functioning correctly.
The wire that carries 12V operating power into the converter box is the ORANGE wire which should have a 25-amp fuse. If all connections/fuses are good, then this wire should carry voltage that you can detect with the circuit tester. Both the 12V operating power and the input signals must be present for there to be any output at the 7-way socket.
If these steps do not activate the harness, please let me know.
Tekonsha 7-way wiring harness # 118286 (and the discontinued harness 118274 that it replaces) are correct fits for your 2018 Honda Pilot. Since your Pilot does not have the backup sensors you will NOT connect the separate plug with the blue wire.
