Is Weight Distribution Needed on 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee With Self-Leveling System?

Question:

I have read a previous question and your recommendation regarding the product EQ37060ET. As in a customer’s previous question, I too tow a R-pod 179 with a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Before doing proper research one year ago, I installed a Curt friction sway bar, part # 17200, but using it alone, I have found trucks passing me and wind still create a bit of sway. For this reason. I am considering removing it and installing the EQ37060ET. I have two questions: 1. As my Jeep has a stock self-leveling system, will I still get the full benefits of this product, meaning is the weight distribution system still helpful if my vehicle is already sitting level? 2. Is the overall use of EQ37060ET product superior than my adding one of the chain type weight distribution systems to my existing Curt friction-sway bar? I am looking to lessen the sway I am experiencing and I do not know if adding the chain system will improve this issue vs the 4 way antisway offered with the EQ37060ET. I do quite a bit of long distance trailering on the interstates. Thank you

A sway control system such as your Curt # 17200 only reduces sway after it has already started, which is why you are still experiencing some sway when trucks pass by. So to answer your first question, you will experience a benefit from using the Equal-i-zer # EQ37060ET because it uses friction within the spring bars to stop trailer sway altogether (assuming you have the correctly rated system); however, because your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a self-leveling system, you would not see that benefit, but if you are looking to stop trailer sway, the Equal-i-zer is the way to go.

To answer your second question, yes, an Equal-i-zer system such as # EQ37060ET will be superior to most other weight distribution systems that use chains.
