How to Power Enclosed Trailer Lights Off of 12V Battery

Hello there. I have a covered trailer that I use to haul my carpentry tools. It has a 7 prong plug and when it’s attatched to my truck, the interior lights work off of my truck battery. However, I usually unhook my trailer on the job site so the lights don’t work. I’m looking for some sort of adapter that would allow me to run my interior trailer lights off of a 12v car battery. I own a pop up camper that I can hook up to a battery. Does an adapter like that exist? Thanks for the help!

I can tell you exactly what you'll need to power your enclosed trailer's lights off of an independent 12V battery, though there isn't an adapter.

You first need to mount the battery with a battery box for 12V batteries like # TLA7708R, and then use junction box # 38656 to tap into your trailer's 7-way.

You will also need ring terminals # 44-5310A, and wire # 12-1-1 to run to each light, and to turn the lights on, a light switch such as the Pollak rocker switch # PK34308 or toggle switch # PK34571.

You will be able to charge the battery when the 7-way is attached to your tow vehicle, but if you plan on being unhooked for an extended period of time you will want to think about using a battery charger, the CTEK MULTI US 7002 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger with Pulse Maintenance and Backup Power # CTEK56353.
