Placement of Subaru Outback Factory Crossbar for Kayak Rack
Question:
I have a 2017 Outback. I own Malone MPG114MD rack system. Where should the back factory rail be positioned? I can move it back 10 inches to widen the distance between the bars.

Expert Reply:
For your Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier with Tie Downs # MPG114MD I recommend positioning your crossbar rails as far apart as possible. Without knowing the curve of your kayak, I can't tell you which fixed location for that rear crossbar will work best, but if the curve allows, I recommend moving it back to the weight is distributed over a longer distance.
If the curve is too close to your vehicle roof, then move the crossbars closer so the load can be properly supported.
