Installation of Wiring Harness in Rear Cargo Area Instead of Underneath Vehicle on Subaru Outback

Question:

I saw on the outback the wires go out the back door now? Why are all cars doing that? I feel like that increases the risk of damaging the wire. Can the trailer wires be routed to underneath the car like they used to be? Ive been researching new cars and thats something ive been seeing a lot and wondering if it can be rerouted.

A trailer's wiring harness, like # 118467 doesn't necessarily have to be stored in the rear cargo area. However, in a lot of vehicles there isn't access out of the rear cargo to underneath. It's also better for the wiring to keep it out of the elements and in the dry cargo area for its own protection. This will help avoid any corrosion or damage from debris. The rubber strip along the rear hatch's frame will allow you to safely close the hatch while using the harness.
