Recommended 5.30X12 Tire and Wheel with High Speed Rating

Question:

You answered my question and recommended AT53012R45WM. My trailer came with 4.80x8 which are very old, like 20 yr. so I wanted a larger tire for a hwy trip of 1200 miles. My question is, in fractions, how much wider is the 5.30 tire? Checking for clearance. I guess I can use 4.80x12, but thought a wider tire might be best. The boat is only a 14 ft aluminum fishing boat with 25 horse motor. Any thoughts? Thanks,

I recommend taking a look at the Taskmaster 5.30R12 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C
Item # TT53012C and pair it with the Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel - 12" x 4" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Silver
Item # TA79RR. This is an excellent radial ply tire that features a maximum load of 1,050 pounds at 80 psi. It actually has an M speed rating, which equals a maximum speed of 81 mph. The steel wheel has a nice modular design and the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you are needing. We do not sell any radial tires in this size already mounted on a wheel so you would need to get these mounted at a local shop upon arrive. Another great thing about this tire and wheel combo is its warranty. Both the tire and the wheel come with a 2-year warranty.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this tire and wheel combo that you can also check out.

A 5.30R12 size trailer tire like what is on the Taskmaster # TT53012C mentioned above has a width of 5.39 inches. The existing 4.80x8 tires on your trailer have a width of 4.6 inches so the new tires will be wider by 0.79 inches (just over 3/4 of an inch). In addition to trailer frame clearance, you will also want to make sure you have enough wheel well clearance for a larger tire in terms of its diameter/height. This will be the biggest difference between these two sized tires. The 5.30R12 tire will have an overall diameter/height of 21.9 inches compared to the 16.1 inch diameter/height on your current tires. This is a difference of 5.8 inches, although only half (2.9 inches) of this height change will affect the wheel well/fender clearance on the trailer. We recommend having at least 3 inches of clearance between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender with the trailer under load.
