Should Nuts and Bolts Be Replaced When Installing New Trailer Equalizers

Question:

Your more of an expert on this than me, but, I thought that the nuts had a different thread spacing count than the bolts to tighten them. When I replaced mine, I could finger tight the nut only half way before I needed a wrench. Looking at the nut I couldnt see any oval sizing or crimping. Is this possible? And do you always replace the bolt and nut.

The bolts would have the same thread pitch as the nuts. The reason why you could only get the nut tightened a few threads is because the nuts that are used are lock nuts.

It is recommended to use new hardware, nuts and bolts like the Zinc Shackle Bolt with Locknut, part # TRFA73Z916DLNZ, when replacing the equalizers. You would need to measure your old hardware to determine which replacement bolts you will need.

I have linked all the suspension bolts we have available and a video of replacing trailer equalizer and bolts.
