Recommended Cushioned Equalizer Replacement Options For Factory Equalizer 6" Wide and 4" Tall

Question:

Hi, My factory equalizer has a distance between outer shackle bolt holes center on center: 6, and a height from shackle bolt hole to hanger bolt hole: 4 I would like to replace this factory equalizer with either the Road Armor Shock Absorbing Equalizer Kit, or the MORryde Rubber Equalizers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 33inch Both of them only have a 3 -1/4 inch height to hanger bolt, and my current height to hanger bolt is 4 inches. 1. How much of an effect will a 3/4 inch have on my fifth wheel? 2. The MORryde is 6- 1/2 inches between shackles, will the 1/2 inch increase have an effect on the suspension? 3. Would shock absorbers do the same job of reducing vibration to the trailer as the road armor and MORryde while using the old equalizer? 4. What would you recommend to replace the old equalizer I have? Sincerely, Tom

I understand your worry Tom, and I have a couple recommendations. First is the MORryde ALLTREK 4000 Shock Absorbing Equalizers # MR89DR which has a height of 4-1/2" for the mounting bolts. This is also 6-1/2" in width like the shorter Equalizer # MR87ZR and don't worry the additional width as the shackle straps will accommodate for the difference.

If you chose either the shorter MORryde or Road Armor # LC696740 you may be able to switch to a shorter shackle strap. If you have the longer 3-1/8" Straps # MR76ZR you could go with the shorter 2-1/4" Straps # MR46ZR which would virtually eliminate the height difference from your current equalizer. If you already have the shorter straps you would loose aproximately 3/8" of ground/tire clearance by having the shorter equalizer.

Shock absorbers like the Comfort Ride # RM-2460 will help to absorb shock and vibration but I feel the cushioned equalizers are a better option since they cushion the suspension where it mounts to the trailer.

Thanks Bud M, my shackles are 2-1/4 inch. What shackle, wet bolt kit etc. would you recommend with the MORryde ALLTREK 4000? Is there anything else I should purchase to make this all work? Regards! Tom

@Tom You will want either of the kits below depending on if you have correct track hangers. These are fairly obviously seen if you have yellow octagon adjusters on the front and rear hangers. The wet bolts for the these style hangers are longer for the adjusters. MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 2-1/4" # MR46ZR MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers w Correct Track - 2-1/4" # MR58ZR

@BudM Thanks once again Bud. As for the hangers, my fifth wheel is in storage in Utah and i don't have access. But if my memory hasn't failled me, the hangers are standard 1/4 inch thick stadard steel. Nothing fancy.. Our fifth wheel is a 2018 Cruiser Aire 28RD, Which is not a high end trailer, and i really can't remember seeing yellow adjusters at the front and back hangers.. Having said that, which shackles and wet bolts would you suggest.. Skncerely , Tom
