Difference Between Curt # C56172 and Tekonsha # 118540 T-One Wiring Harnesses
Question:
What is the difference between the p/n C56172 and 118540?

Expert Reply:
Both the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56172 and the Tekonsha T-One Harness # 118540 referenced in your question are confirmed to fit the 2011-2018 Ford Explorer. Both harnesses will install the exact same way, by plugging into a built-in port located beneath the rear of the Explorer, on the passenger's side. They will provide you with a 4-Way connector that connects with and powers a trailer's basic signal lights.
The only difference between the two harnesses is simply its manufacturer. Tekonsha is well known for producing reliable electrical products for towing and we hear far less troubleshooting issues with their harnesses than from Curt, so I recommend going with the Tekonsha # 118540.
I have attached an installation video and the written instructions that you can use for reference.
