Troubleshooting Toad Wiring on 2017 Subaru Crosstrek with 3 Wire System

Question:

So I just finished installing the road master 7to6 wiring kit on my 2017 Subaru Crosstrek, but the issue Im having is the car has separate amber colored blinkers that light up when brakes are applied. The running lights work as do the blinkers. Is this how its supposed to work? Did I wire something wrong? Thanks

The Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 was a great choice for your 2017 Subaru Crosstrek. You did have a connection mistake as the amber blinkers should not be lighting up when the brakes are applied. You simply connected the wrong vehicle wire to the diode. You want to tap into the tail light wire with that diode and not the turn signal wire as the system coming from your motorhome will have the brake and turn signals combined.

Your vehicle has a 3 wire system, so you do have the option separate out that blinker function from the running lights and brakes if desired so you would have the brakes on red and blinkers on amber in your tow vehicle. You can either wire your Crosstrek with the current kit so your brake lights also work as blinkers on the brake light signal wire of your vehicle (but not the amber lights), or you can use a wiring converter like # 118158 and 2 additional diodes # RM-792 to separate out the signals so your turn signals remain amber colored.

I've attached a photo to assist as well as some videos.
