Recommended Battery Cutoff Switch for Two 12 Volt Batteries

Question:

I want to install a battery switch on my travel trailer that has two 12v batteries mounted on the front Aframe. Can I install the switch on the metal Ainch frame near the battery boxes? It would be exposed to the elements in that location rain.? Or, can I mount the switch to the outside of the plastic battery box as it is not conductive material.? It is still exposed to rain. What mounting location is best and what switch do you sell positions: battery 1, battery 2, both, off? Also, the positive lead from the travel trailer is short. If I mount the switch too far away, Ill need to extend this lead to the switch but I can replace it as it is routed into the trailer somewhere.. How can I extend it if needed?

I cannot be for sure but it sounds as if you are referring to a battery cutoff switch. If this is the case then I recommend using the Epicord Battery Disconnect Switch with Key part # 277-000096. This switch has easy to use bolt-on terminals, comes with a removable key, and has a 1-year warranty. You will need one switch for each battery.

In order to install the switch, I recommend making a circular hole for the terminals to slide into and then attaching it to the outside of your plastic battery box. It will need to be somewhat out of the elements in order to ensure proper function. If you need to extend the positive lead on the RV then I recommend just buying some extra wire of the same gauge and then soldering the two wires together and using electric tape over the join.

I have attached a review video on the above switch for you as well.
