If you ran a jumper wire from a 12 volt battery to the input side of the Roadmaster Hy-Power Diode # RM-790 and then used a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the output pin for 12 volts you'd know if the diode was good or not.

Sounds like maybe the diode of the wiring kit on your vehicle has gone bad. You can bypass the diode to get the brake light to get it to work again, or you can replace the diode with part #RM-790 for if you ever planned to flat tow the vehicle again.…
