Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch and Underbed Base Rails for 2017 Ford F-250 With Long Bed
Question:
Have a 2017 F-250 long bed. Need a fifth wheel hitch. I would like one that I can remove and still use the truck bed for a truck bed. I see you have some kind of mounting brackets from reese but am basically dumb when it comes to fifth wheel hitches. Can you recommend a package deal or specific parts that I will need?

So to mount a fifth wheel hitch you need rails, and there are two types of rails: in-bed and underbed. The in-bed rails will be, as the name suggests, installed and exposed on top of your truck bed so you when you remove the fifth wheel hitch they would still be present. Underbed rails will be hidden and allow for complete bed access when your fifth wheel hitch is removed. Some trucks have an optional package that have what is called a puck system which allows for a fifth wheel hitch to be mounted and removed without adding rails.
It does not sound like you have that on your 2017 Ford F-250, but there is still a good option for your truck from Reese. The Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit # RP87FR will give you underbed rails that are not exposed in your truck bed so you can remove the hitch and have access to the entire bed.
For the fifth wheel hitch itself you need the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ford Towing Prep Package # RP30922. This says for the Ford prep package but works with this installation kit as it has the same hole spacing for the legs.
