Does the Orientation of the Backing Plate Matter on the Brophy Tie Down Part # RR5K

Question:

Does it matter if you mount the RR5K tie down at an angle so the tie down strap is pulling straight away from the loop or are they engineered to only point towards the front and back of the trailer?

The orientation of the backing plate on the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor w Backing Plate part # RR5K does not matter. I called my contact at C.R. Brophy Machine Works to confirm this as well. The reason one side is longer is because different situations will require different clearances. Whichever way gives you the most clearance will be the way you will want to install it.

I have attached a sample install video on this tie down for you as well.

The angle that you mount the tie-downs doesn't matter. As long as the surface you are securing the tie-down to is study then you should not have any issues with strength so long as you do not exceed the 1,600 lb working load limit. The orientation and angle at which you mount the tie-down will rely solely on how you intend to use them and what works best for you.
