Troubleshooting Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes
Question:
Hello, My question on this controller is if you have any input for this issue: The actuator stays energized at all times, it is supposed to shut off. It does still operate the brakes correctly, however. Please let me know if there are serviceable components on these, or if you have any information for me. In the meantime, I have provided my technician with the wiring diagram provided in this listing Please email me at your earliest convenience. Thank you very much and have a great day!

The HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi # HBA16 will have a draw on the 12V power from your 7-way when connected. If your vehicle has a factory 7-way this power may turn off when the ignition is turned off and that is okay. You can also unplug the trailer connection if desired when the trailer is parked which will also remove that 12V power. Both of these scenarios are okay. You simply need 12V power when the trailer is connected and you are traveling to ensure you will have braking function.
If your brake actuator is working properly for braking, that is definitely a positive as there are not replacement parts available. You want to make sure your gauge of wire used is appropriate with the attached instructions and I've attached the wiring schematic to assist. You will want to make sure your ground wire is properly connected to a bare metal portion of the trailer frame free of corrosion, rust, or debris.
