How to Determine if a 2018 Toyota Highlander has a Tow Package
Question:
I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander LE. I need to install a brake controller, which in turn needs the 7pin socket, which in turn needs the 4 pin flat installing. I can’t figure out if I have a power converter under the dash - I don’t know where to look. But I did see a white plug just to the right of the e-brake under the dash. Looks like it has 8 “slots”. Could this be for a brake controller? Any ideas or thoughts greatly appreciated. I have a photo of it but can’t attach it to this message.

To me that connector you found sounds like where you need to plug a converter in which would mean you don't have the tow package. Look at the picture I've attached. If it looks like this will plug into the connector you found then that's what it is. It shouldn't be a connector for a brake controller because your 2018 Toyota Highlander doesn't have a custom adapter to install a controller.
If this is what you need then I recommend part # C56217 for your 4-way. Then use our # ETBC7 kit to convert it to a 7-way but it sounds like you've already figured that out. I've linked a video on the wiring's install but the converter box plugs in at the rear on this one. So you might also check there for that connector to find out if you have the tow package or not. I've also linked a video on the # ETBC7 kit on an older Highlander but the process will basically be the same.
For the brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P3, part # 90195. It's a favorite and best seller around because of how easy it is to use and how reliable it is.
Another way to determine if you have the tow package is to contact Toyota with your VIN and they can tell you how your Highlander is equipped from the factory.
If you still need a trailer hitch I recommend the etrailer, part # e98844. I like that it can be used with weight distribution and has the highest capacities.
