Brake Controller for a Volkswagen Atlas and Trailer with LED Lights
Question:
Good morning, I am new to travel trailers, my family and I are planning a long camping trip this summer. I bought a brand new VW atlas with a tow package rated at 5000 lbs. I purchased a Jayco 15 BH rated at 2500 lbs. I went to the dealer to pick up the trailer and the electric brakes do not work from the car to the trailer. I went back to VW and they say is because of the LED lights, however the lights appeared to work fine when plugged into the adapter. VW recommends this product C57003, however I am concerned because I have not read in the reviews this was a problem for other customers. The trailer dealer recommends a wireless prodigy electric brake system - however, I am concerned if I get this product I will start having difficulty with my lights. Any guidance? Now that I own a trailer that I can not move off the dealers lot.

For the electric trailer brakes to work your Volkswagen Atlas will need to have a brake controller. The trailer brakes do not work off of the brake light circuit. The Curt Echo Mobile # C51180 is a great option. The Echo is a wireless brake controller that plugs into the 7 way connector on your VW Atlas and doesn't require that anything to be installed in your vehicle because it is controlled with your smart phone and connected via Bluetooth.
