Troubleshooting Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller Blowing Fuse on 2023 VW Atlas With Factory 7-Way

Question:

2023 VW Atlas SEL w/factory towing package 7 way plug. Echo apparently constantly blows fuse in vehicle. Trailer Lights, brakes, turn signals all still function fine, even with blown fuse!! We just get error messages on vehicle dash indicating both left and right trailer lights/signals not working, which is not the case, they work fine. Dealer hasn’t been able to isolated issue beyond constantly blown fuse? Your site says this controller is tested to work? Was it actually tested or is that just based on vehicle specs?? Also, do any of your wired brake controllers have either the exact plug or an adapter to work with factory wiring/connector? Thanks

It sounds as though the Curt Echo # C51180 along with the power draw from your trailer is overloading the circuit on your 2023 VW Atlas with the factory tow package. You may be able to resolve your issues by checking to see what other circuits are drawing power from your 7-way and disconnecting those that are not necessary.

As an alternative since you are able to use a Wiring Adapter # C29JR to install a brake controller you can mount the Curt Assure # C49UR to your dash. Or we do have a Curt Echo Under-Dash Wireless Brake Controller # C27JR if you prefer using your smartphone rather than having a dash mounted controller.
