Use of Timbren Rear Suspension Kit on Flatbed Truck Carrying Heavy Loads
Question:
I have a 2005 F150 flat bed. When loading freight onto the bed, some inexperienced forklift drivers or lower their forks onto the bed, causing the bed to momentarily be pushed down far lower than it should go. I am concerned that in an extreme situation like this, the Timbren would compress too much and the steel bolt head inside the hollow barrel would make contact with the my axle. My question is, is it possible to compress the Timbren to where the bolt head hits the axle? This is a work truck, and I cant always stop the forklift drivers before they make a mistake.

There are several Timbren rear-axle suspension helper spring kits for your 2006 F-150, shown on the linked page, that offer either 6000-lbs of combined load support or 7000-lbs of load support as with the kit # TFRTT1502D that you referenced. This specific kit is designed expressly for heavy-duty 2WD "severe service" vehicles like tow trucks and also vehicles that carry heavy loads. 4WD trucks use kit # TFRTT150D.
I spoke to my technical contact at Timbren about your concern. He noted that none of their kits are designed to prevent the potential issue of a fork lift driver compressing your bed. That is above and beyond the intended purpose of these kits. But he did also state that in the event that a bolt or rubber spring failed in use Timbren would replace those items free of charge.
