Hub/Drum Assembly that Allows the Largest Tire Size to be Used on a 3,500 Lb Axle

Question:

Hi, is there anyway to mate this Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb Axles - 12inch - 8 on 6-1/2 Item # 8-219-4UC3 to the Dexter 3500 lbs Easy Lube axle? Not looking to increase trailer capacity just looking to use 19.5 wheels/Tires for blowout reliability and long tire life.

Expert Reply:

Most 3,500 lb axles like part # T3584F-EZ-8974 use an L68149 inner and a L44649 outer bearing. The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 42866UC3-EZ has a 25580 inner bearing and a 14125A outer bearing therefore will not work with a 3,500 lb axle. The largest tire you can use on a 3,500 lb axle is a 16.5" tire. In order to run this large of a tire you would also need to use a hub/drum assembly with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern like part # 84656UC3. This hub/drum assembly works with 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide braking assemblies.
