Can Trailer Hitch be Replaced for Larger Capacity in 2010 Ford F-150?
Question:
Hi, I have a 2010 F-150 XL Super Cab, with max towing of 5800lbs and the installed hitch weight is 600lbs. I was wondering if I can replace the current hitch for a new one with larger max weight I am planning to buy a trailer that needs hitch weight of 686lbs. Is it possible? If so, which product should do the job? Thanks

The hitch that is currently on your 2010 Ford F-150 can be replaced for one with a larger capacity, though you should keep in mind that this will not increase the towing capacity of your truck in any way, including the tongue weight.
The Curt # C14002 is a Class IV hitch that has a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 lbs and max tongue weight capacity of 1,000 lbs and would work if your truck can handle the amount of weight you are looking to tow. I've added a link to a video review of this hitch being installed on a '11 F-150 for you to take a look at.
