Recommendation to Convert 4-Way on 2015 Ford Edge to 5-Way for Boat Trailer
Question:
I would like to wire Item # HM48470 into my 2015 Ford Edge SEL. The Edge came with the factory 4 pin flat connector. I need a 5 pin flat. Do I need to add a relay for the 5th pin the backup lights? The 5th pin powers a solenoid on the surge brakes of a boat trailer. If I need to add a solenoid, would you please recommend one?

The Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-, 5- and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector # HM48470 referenced in your question can be hardwired to your vehicle in accordance to the wiring diagram in the instructions, but it is better suited to install on vehicle's that already have the 7-Way wiring ran.
Since you just have the factory 4-Way on your Ford Edge, I instead recommend using the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036. This will plug into your existing 4-Way to provide a 5-Way to match your boat trailer. The blue wire from the adapter will then be ran to the reverse light circuit on the vehicle, which is the connection you need to make to activate the reverse lockout on the trailer.
You should not need to add any additional relays for this 5-Way to be fully functional once the above connections are made.
