Some vehicles require a special fitting when installing a supplemental transmission cooler but there is not one specified for the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 with 6.0 liter motor. However, past models with the same motor did require fitting # D13035. It is possible that GM changed the radiator or something about the radiator after the 2015 model year, that I can't be sure of, but if they did not change anything then it does stand to reason that D13035 would be needed for a 2016 as well. But 2015 and 2017 also do not have a special fitting listed.
I did some checking and for the 2500/3500 models 2015 was the start of a new generation so I am confident that you will not need the special fitting. For a cooler the most popular option is # D13503. This is a plate-fin cooler which measures 11" x 8-3/4" x 7/8" so make sure that you have the space for it in the location you want to mount it.
