What are the laws regarding brakeaway system on tow vehicles.

Basically most states (if not all at this point) require a supplemental braking system by law. Part of that stipulates that you have to have a breakaway system in place that the vehicle's brakes would apply if the vehicle became disconnected.

All of the kits we carry like the Blue Ox Patriot part # BLU37TR come with a breakaway system so you would not need to purchase the kit separately.
