Are Tire Weight Capacities Per Tire or for a Pair

Question:

if a tire is rated for 750 lbs, does that mean on a single axle trailer you can have a total weight of 1500 lbs considering there are two tires.

Expert Reply:

Yes, trailer tires are rated by tire. So for example, the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Load Range C Tire, part # AM10004, is rated up to 745 pounds at 90 psi. Two tires on one axle are rated up to 1,490 pounds.

You still need to verify the weight capacity of the other components of your trailer. You'll always be limited by the lowest rated piece of the puzzle.
