Is Load Range Important When Replacing Trailer Tires on a Popup Camper

Question:

Looking to replace the tires on a used pop-up trailer. They are size 5.30 x 12. What load range should I be getting? Load Range B or Load Range C. I dont know the difference or if this is what I am supposed to be even looking at.

The load range tire used is going to depend on the gross trailer weight capacity, which should be on a sticker or plate near the front of the trailer frame or in the trailer's literature. It probably also indicates the load range, or at least the capacity, on your existing tires.

For a 5.30-12 we have 3 different load ranges: B, C, and D. For a load range B use # AM10064. It is rated for 840 pounds at 55 psi. For a load range C we have # AM10066 rated for 1,045 pounds at 80 psi. And for load range D we have # AM10068 rated for 1,250 pounds at 105 psi. You could use Load Range B, C or D as long as both tires are the same and they equal or exceed the trailer/axle capacity.

The capacity listed is per tire. Also, you should always inflate trailer tires to the maximum psi indicated. Trailer tires have a thick sidewall and if under inflated it can generate excessive heat and cause the tire to fail. Also going with a higher capacity tire will not increase the capacity of the trailer.
