Stromberg Carlson 4000 Series 5th Wheel Louvered Tailgate with Lock for Toyota Trucks

It was easy to put on, but there is about a 4 inch gap between the bottom of the tailgate and the top of the bumper that looks pretty chinsey. Might have to spray paint it to look better. 407638

There is no provision for the back-up camera from the original tailgate. The tailgate won't take any weight at all. I think it would make sense to reinforce it enough to hold a toolbox.698184

I am pleased with the fit, look and how it suits my needs. It was straight forward to install, and took just a few minutes. It beats the pants off the cost of a new tailgate, even after market.
However, it is plastic, and can't support much weight. I worry someone may sit, or place cargo on it.
Final verdict, I would purchase etrailers products again. The VGT-70-4000 works as an alternative tailgate option. And, it is a beauty for a fifth wheel.

I bought this because I had a damaged OEM tailgate. It arrive with the packaging intact, but one of the mounting points tweaked. It only took a minor quick bend of the metal for this to go on and it looks great. Installed on an 07 Tundra that I use to tow a Reflection 230RL fifth wheel. I’m a little disappointed that the locking/latching mechanism doesn’t have the spring tension to reset itself (you have to manual turn the latch nob for the tailgate to latch close after it’s been opened). But otherwise very happy with both the product and the customer service at etrailer! Would buy again and would buy from etrailer.669493

We needed an RV tailgate to tow our 5th wheel on our vacation. The tailgate looks great, but IT WAS THE SERVICE THAT I RATED EXCELLENT!! I had to have the tailgate by a certain day. I was constantly apprised of the status and I received it well before the deadline. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!!81893

Very nice looking product. Fairly easy to install but package was missing the two bolts (MS-125) that hold the tailgate straps to the tailgate. Required a quick trip to Ace Hardware to complete. Also one of the side panel receiver clips (where the screw attaches) stripped out and the left side latch had about a quarter inch free play that allows the gate to rattle. Even after adjusting the truck bed post and the gate lock as far in as possible.453371

My louvered tailgate arrived quickly and installation was easy (with a little help w/ my wife). It looks very sporty and I don't need to worry anymore about my fifth wheeler and my Tundra crashing against each other anymore--my stock tailgate is ruined anyway! Thanks etrailer. I'll be recommending your site to fellow fifth wheeler campers.

2012 Toyota Tundra

I miss my backup camera in the v-gate. someone needs to come up a camera that’s on the back of the cab so we can see the fifth wheel plate and king pin 517282

When I install it, it is difficult to install both sides plastic covers. The cutting of the both plastic covers are not perfect to fit it. Because of that, it may break the bottom plastic when install the bottom screws.
After I finished the installation, I found that the key cannot turn to the lock position. It only can turn to open the lock. I have contacted the customer services department. They said they will send parts to me to fix that. Right now , the tailgate is good and work perfectly but it cannot lock.725911

As usual excellent shipping and service. Tailgate came damaged from being dropped by the shipping company, Luckily I could bend back the metal and any damage was covered by the plastic covers.267695

It's a flimsy plastic tailgate. The fitment isn't the best and the side panels are weak.1267410

Very easy to install! Packaged well! Doesn’t use a latch to secure, so it’s very loose, and the cables don’t function like OEM when opening and closing. Also the center insert is made out of metal, so it doesn’t match the plastic tailgate very well. If you have kids who climb in and out the bed of the truck I would not use this product. 477553

I am very pleased with the look of the Stromberg 4000 tailgate and it was easy to install. I only had a little problem with setting the screw and the metal clip on the bottom left of the tailgate, because of the spacing between a metal reinforcement strip and the bottom of the pivot post was almost too close to allow me to tighten the screw. Minor problem, worked just fine. 480376
