How To Install A Brake Controller on a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado
Question:
I purchased the p3 brake controller from you and went to install it in my 2016 but I can’t locate the wiring as described. I removed the kick panel and I have no four wires to connect the controller too. Thanks

The installation instructions for the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 will vary depending on if your truck was equipped with a 7-way trailer connector from the factory. If your truck already came with a 7-way trailer connector then the blunt cut wires you will need to use to install the controller will be located under the drivers side kick panel near the emergency brake pedal. You can see this location shown at the 2:00 mark in the attached video.
However, if your truck did not come with a factory 7-way trailer connector then the pre-ran blunt cut wires will not be present. In order to install a brake controller on a truck without a factory 7-way trailer connector you will need to first install the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Connector part # HM11141164 in addition to the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7.
