If your 2006 VW Beetle TDI is an automatic transmission, then it can only be towed using a tow dolly like Roadmaster's # RM-2050-1. You can see this outlined in your owners manual.

If your Beetle has a manual transmission, then it can be flat towed with a speed restriction of 65 mph.

For flat towing components, I recommend we start with theDemco Classic Base Plate Kit # DM9518071 confirmed to fit your TDI model. Then for a compatible tow bar, I recommend the Demco Commander II # DM9511012 which comes with the safety cables needed as well. The Commander has a 1-1/2 inch rise or drop but you will also need a high-low adapter and I've linked the page to your options as well as have attached an article to assist in getting a perfect fit.

For your tow bar wiring, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit utilizes diodes to protect your vehicle yet utilizes its wiring for a clean look. It will give you a clean connection to the front of your Beetle.

Finally, for your braking system, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251. This is an easy system to use because once installed it becomes simply plug and play. It makes connecting your braking system as easy as connecting your vehicle wiring. The installation allows you to adjust the braking and then you set it and forget it. It is a really reliable system that is our installation team's favorite.

That completes your system. Let me know if you have questions.
