It sounds like you are looking for a ball mount that will slide into the trailer hitch on your 2017 GMC Canyon. Based on the trailer hitches we have available for this vehicle, you should have a 2 inch hitch receiver installed. You can verify this by simply measuring the receiver opening or checking for its rating that should be located on the hitch itself. If you do not yet have a trailer hitch installed, I recommend the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # C13176. This custom-fit hitch will use existing holes in your Canyon's frame for a no-drill installation and features an 8,000 pound towing capacity.
In order to choose the right ball mount for your application, you will just need to take a couple of quick measurements. With your GMC Canyon parked on level ground, you will measure from the ground to the top of the hitch receiver. Then on the trailer you plan on towing, you will measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. If the measurement on the trailer is higher, you will need a ball mount with a rise. If the measurement on the vehicle is higher, you will need one with a drop. Ideally, you will choose a ball mount that features a rise or drop closest to the difference between your two measurements.
For example, the Curt Class III Ball Mount with 2 Inch Ball # C45036 features a drop of 2 inches. I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection of ball mounts, along with a great article that you can use for reference.
