Parts Needed to Convert Drum Brakes to Disc Brakes on 1998 Pacific Boat Trailer

Question:

I have a 1998 2-axle Pacific boat trailer model G25TW5-10 that I would like to convert to disc brakes. I use it mostly in salt water. Both axles currently have 12inch drum brakes. The backing plates have 5 bolts to the axle. The wheels have 6 lugs, tires are 8.75R16.5LT load range E 10 ply. What is your suggestion?

In order to convert the drum brakes on your Pacific boat trailer to disc brake assemblies, you will need new brake and hub/rotor assemblies that use the same bearing set, a new actuator (as a drum brake actuator has a lower pressure rating than what is needed for disc brakes) and a brake line kit. I have attached a great article that explains each item you will need in detail in order to make this conversion.

For example, the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR526D includes 2 corrosion-resistant hub-and-rotor-assemblies, calipers and mounting brackets for 5,200 to 6,000 pound axles. It uses the # 25580 inner bearing and # 15123 outer bearing. It does have a 5 bolt brake flange configuration. If this matches your existing bearings and the axle capacity, this set will work well. The Dacromet coating on these assemblies will provide them with superior corrosion resistance for saltwater use.

I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection of surge brake actuators for disc brakes that you can also look through.
