Heat and Exhaust With a Cargo Carrier on a 2017 Toyota RAV4
Question:
Is C18100 cargo carrier safe in terms of the exhaust heat from 2017 Toyota RAV4?

Expert Reply:
We recommend there be at least 6 inches between the tailpipe and the cargo carrier to avoid heat transfer. In the case of your 2017 Toyota RAV4, the tailpipe is pointed downward, and on most hitch installations, the 19 x 60 Curt Cargo Carrier, part # 18100 will be 6 or more inches away from the vehicle when folded down.
For a 2017 Toyota RAV4 equipped with theetrailer Class III, part # e98864, the 19 x 60 Cargo Carrier will sit 7-1/4 inches to its closest edge, well away from the exhaust.
I've included a video of the 19 x 60 cargo carrier on the pre-facelift 2013 Toyota RAV4 where you can get an idea of where the carrier falls in relation to the vehicle.
