Hitch Height of Curt Trailer Hitch for 2013 Ford Explorer for Picking Out Ball Mount
Question:
Ive never installed a hitch, wiring, etc Ive always driven a truck with the tow package already installed and I was hoping you could send me a list of everything needed. I drive a 2013 Explorer that does NOT have the tow package. I know for sure I need a hitch and wiring harness, pin and clip I am currently trying to figure out heights so I can buy the proper ball mount. Is there anything else Im missing. Thanks for any help.

When we installed the Curt hitch part # C13386 on a 2013 Ford Explorer like yours we found the distance from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground to be 16-1/4 inches. So since your trailer has a distance from the bottom of the coupler lip to the ground when level of 14-1/2 inches you'd want a drop of 1-3/4 inches.
The closest we have to that is a 2 inch drop like the Draw Tite ball mount part # 2923 which would work well.
For a 2 inch ball you'd want the part # 63845 or for a 1-7/8 inch ball part # 19260.
