4-Pole Wiring Harness for 2017 Honda Pilot and 5-Pole Adapter for Trailer with Surge Coupler
Question:
Can a functioning 4 pin wiring system be installed on a 2017 Pilot. OEM only show a 3 wire. Need the an electric brake wire and if possible where does this 4th wire get its power. The trailer has surge brakes so a cabin brake controller is not required. Thanks.

We do offer 4-pole trailer wiring kits for the 2017 Honda Pilot, shown on the linked page, such as # 118760. This is the kit I recommend since we find Tekonsha wiring products to be very reliable.
4-pole type trailer wiring carries three lighting circuits (plus a ground, on the 4th pin) but does not carry any other type of trailer signals such as power for electric trailer brakes. The circuits on a 4-pole are for running lights (brown wire), left turn/stop lights (yellow wire) and right turn/stop lights (green wire). You can refer to the linked article that covers all wiring formats and what circuits are provided on each wire/pin.
If your trailer's surge coupler has an electric reverse lockout to allow backing up, rather than a manual lever-operated lockout, then the reverse lockout solenoid in the coupler does need a signal to activate it so that it can block the brake fluid from engaging the trailer brakes. This signal is taken from the vehicle reverse light circuit. When you need to back up the trailer the required signal to block trailer braking action can be accessed on the Pilot's reverse light circuit by adding one wire.
We offer simple 4-pole-to-5-pole adapters to allow this. Parts like # 20036, # 47515 and # C57187 allow you to easily add the additional reverse light circuit to a 4-pole set-up. Typically boat trailers with surge coupler have a 5-pole wiring set-up which would match the adapter.
If I have not fully addressed your concern please reply back with additional information and I will be happy to assist further.
