Using Extra-Long Ball Mount vs. Hitch Extension When Towing with Jeep That Has Rear Spare Tire
Question:
How do I figure the length of ball mount or hitch extension I need to tow a trailer with my Jeep's rear-mounted spare tire getting in the way?

When towing with a vehicle like your 2013 Jeep Wrangler that has a rear-door-mounted spare tire you will probably need either a hitch extension like the Curt # C45796 that you referenced, OR you may be able to use an extra-long ball mount, which is actually a preferable solution.
There are a few advantages to using a long ball mount versus a separate hitch extension like # C45796. The first is towing capacity. Extensions cause a 50-percent loss in hitch weight capacity. The other advantage of not using an adapter is that there will not be that extra mechanical junction point between the extension and the hitch. Eliminating this means less towing noise and rattle.
We do offer an extra-long 2-inch ball mount from Brody, part # BM20, that gives you 13-1/4-inches of space between the hitch pin hole and the ball hole. This solution does NOT reduce hitch capacity and does NOT add more noise and rattle to the towing system.
You can refer to the linked article to see how to take the measurement needed to confirm this will work for you.
