Side and Roof Vent Options for 5 x 8 Enclosed Trailer
Question:
I have a small 5x8 trailer and I will be keeping my DJ speakers in there. I had a trailer in the past that did not have a roof vent and I noticed some moldy build up on the speakers. live on the west coast. After that, I started storing them in the garage. I think just a vent should do the trick but I was also looking at perhaps getting a fan. I do have a 12v battery with the trailer but I plan on running the fan constantly over the next summer. Im assuming this will drain the battery, no? What options do I have in this regard I dont want to keep the battery plugged in on a charger all the time. Do I need a fan? What kit would you suggest? Keep in mind, I will need everything because currently, my roof does not have any vent. Im assuming I will need to crank the vent up a bit. How will I keep out rain water? Thanks!

We carry all sorts of trailer vents and we can help you with a solution to provide proper ventilation in your 5 x 8 trailer. You can use either a roof vent or a side-mount ventilator, or both if you wish.
We offer two side-mount ventilators that offer passive air flow, parts # PLR1715 and # PLR20. Side Cowl Ventilator # PLR1715 includes a screen and measures approximately 6 x 11-inches. Ventilator # PLR20 measures approximately 10-1/2 x 12-inches. Both vents allow you to open/close air flow as desired. Many will find it easier/preferable to use side-mount vents rather than a roof-mount unit. Side mount vents are also less likely to leak moisture into the trailer. If you like this option I recommend using two vents, one each on the front and rear surfaces, to provide cross ventilation. These can be placed near the roof (where hot air will accumulate). As you drive air flow will then push the hot air inside the trailer out of the rear vent as cooler air is forced into the front vent. Please refer to the linked review videos for details on these items.
Roof vents are available in passive versions like # V2092SP-28 and fan-powered types like # V2094SP-28. All trailer roof vents we have are shown on the linked page. Most are 14 x 14-inches in size but we do have others. An added bonus to a roof vent with a white lid is that it will also allow natural light to enter the trailer. Sunlight tends to inhibit mold growth.
Some of the better vent units available feature automatic rain sensors, such as the Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent # FV807350 which has a 12V fan and remote control too.
