Recommendation for Replacing 7.00-15 Tires on Trailer

Question:

I have seen several Q and As in regards to a replacement tire for a 7 x 15 size trailer tire. I bought an old trailer that Ill just be driving around town, it has the old 4 bolt star pattern rims with the 4 on 9.44. Some of your QandA responses say to never run anything but a 7 x 15 tire because of the rim width, and some of your responses say go head and use a ST225 tire. Will an st225 tire work for around town on my old Dexter rims, or do I have to spend huge for the 7 x 15 ones that are hard to find?

As you mentioned, the 225/75-15 tire size is the next closest size we have available to your existing 7.00-15 tires. As you also referenced, the thing you will need to look at is the size of your current wheels, as the 7.00-15 tire will typically fit a 15 x 5-1/2 inch wheel. A 225/75-15 tire like the Kenda # AM10303 is compatible with 15 inch diameter wheels that have a width of 6, 6-1/2 or 7 inches. They simply will not fit onto a wheel that has a width of less than 6 inches so I cannot recommend doing this even for short distance driving. To see if these will fit on your current wheels, I recommend measuring their width to ensure that these will work.

Also note that the a 225/75-15 tire is going to be about 1 inch smaller in diameter but an inch wider than your existing tires.
