While the axle is typically the most important factor in determining the weight capacity of a trailer, there are other components, such as the suspension system, wheels/hubs and the trailer frame itself that determine its overall capacity. An important rule to remember is that a trailer is always going to be limited by its weakest component. For example, if you decide to install the Dexter Trailer Idler Axle # 20440I-EZ-60 referenced in your question, which has a capacity of 2,000 pounds, but your wheels have a combined capacity of 2,000 pounds, you will still be limited by this lower capacity.

I also recommend checking with the trailer manufacturer with regards to the trailer frame itself, as this may also limit its potential carrying capacity.

The Dexter Trailer Idler Axle # 20440I-EZ-60 has a hub face measurement of 60 inches and a spring center length of 48 inches. You will want to compare these dimensions to your existing unit to ensure this will work as a replacement. This is a very nice axle that features EZ-Lube spindles along with idler hubs that have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. I have attached an installation video for this axle that you can also use for reference.
