Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring

I am looking for a trailer hitch and wiring for a 2017 Mazda CX-5 touring. I want the flexibility of a 2 inch opening but want the lightest hitch possible since I will never tow more than 2,000 pounds and don't want to add too much weight to the vehicle. Recommendations?

You're smart to want the flexibility of a 2 inch hitch receiver; that will offer you many more options in terms of accessories than the smaller 1-1/4 inch receiver. With that in mind, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 76138 for your 2017 Mazda CX-5, which is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver. There are no drawbacks to installing this hitch over its Class II counterpart, the Curt # C12170, as the Class III offers the flexibility you mentioned.

Since you plan on towing, I recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which will fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package: a pair of ball mounts, a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball and a pin and clip. To find out the appropriate rise or drop for your ball mount, please take a look at the attached help article on choosing the correct ball mount. To add a 4-way connector to your Mazda, you will want to use wiring harness # 118746.
