Trailer Wiring Options for a 2011 Ford Escape

Question:

part 118251 wire harness. hi my 2011 ford escape has the connection on the rear drivers side behind the bumper. In my fuse box in the engine compartment there is 3 places for relays to go and it looks like it requires 1 fus according to the owners manual. does not say want amp fuse is needed. if there is a spot in the rear for the harness to plug in do you think the spot were the relays and fuse go would be wired in just with no relays of fuse installed? thanks.

It is possible that the relays and fuses where not installed on your 2011 Ford Escape, even if it has the tow package. It is not uncommon for this to occur, but in order for the Draw-Tite Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118251, to work, the tow package relays and fuses will need to be installed.

In order to determine if your Escape came with the tow package, the best way is to have the dealership run the VIN number. They will be able to tell you all the installed factory options the vehicle has. If it has a tow package, chances are it is also supposed to have those fuses and relays needed to power the wiring harness.

You can also check the fuse box or power distribution box cover for a legend of the fuse locations and what size belongs in each location.

If it turns out you do not have a tow package, I would recommend going with a different harness that is made for those models not equipped with a factory tow package. You can use T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, # 118551. I have included a link to the installation details for this harness.
