Recommended Items Needed to Tow with a 2005 BMW X5

Im interested in buying everything I need for a hitch and wiring and the socket/plug for my 2005 BMW X5. Wiring with protection. The best product combination you can recommend. Thank you for your assistance.

I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75492 on your 2005 BMW X5. This is a Class III hitch receiver with a 2 inch receiver opening. It has a 500-lb Tongue Weight (TW) capacity and a 6,000-lb Gross Towing Weight (GTW) capacity which is the same as your X5.
For wiring I recommend the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT from Tekonsha. I like to recommend the Tekonsha products because of how reliable their products are and that they typically get excellent reviews - like this kit. The ZCI Kit comes with a 4-Way flat connector that has a dust cover on it for protection as well.
You will also need a hitch ball and ball mount to complete your towing setup. I recommend looking at a ball mount kit like part # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch Rise or 2 inch Drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch Rise or 4 inch Drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. You will want to check out the attached article on choosing a ball mount to make sure that this kit is the right one for you.
