The camera turned itself off how we dont know.We pulled over in a rest area change the battery for another new one and restarted it then it worked on and off froze then it stopped all together. Also it seems that the adaptor for the lighter is a bit loose , I thought that all the lighters plug were the same size. What is wrong with this system?

The Rear View Safety Wireless Hitch Camera # RVS-83112 utilizes wireless connection, so if that signal is interrupted, the camera will automatically shut off after 15 minutes. It sounds like the connection issue may be due to a loose 12V accessory connection. If power is lost to the monitor, that would obviously also cause a pairing issue. All 12V accessory connections should be a standard size, so you may want to check for bent ground or power connections on that unit.
The battery life for this camera is estimated at around 3-4 hours, but will vary based on how many times the camera is used. My technical contact at Rear View Safety was able to tell me that the camera is designed to turn off after 15 minutes with the purpose being to conserve the battery power. The exact battery life will depend on the battery used, outside temps, how many times the camera is turned on and off, and how long it is used each time. If you are constantly running the camera, this may be the issue as this system isn't designed for constant monitoring so the batteries may fail faster and cause connection issues.
If the system won't power on or connect as stated in the attached installation details, then the unit will need to be repaired or replaced.
