Replacement Brakes Assemblies for a 2009 Flagstaff HW27SC Camper
Question:
I have a 2009 Flagstaff HW27SC camping tent RV. I would like to replace the electric brakes but do not know what the part number is. Also if there is a video that shows the replacement, that would help. Thanks,

What you will want to do is note the brake mounting flange bolt pattern and the size of your brakes. I did some checking online and it looks like the GVWR of your RV is a little over the 3,500-lb axle weight rating which leads me to believe that you have a 5,200-lb axle. You can verify this by looking on your axle itself for the weight rating and using this list as a guideline:
Typical Axle Diameters Based on Axle Capacity
- 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter
- 3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter
- 6,000-lb - 7,200-lb Axles: 3 inch diameter
- 8,000-lb Axles: 3-1/2 inch diameter
- 9,000-lb Axles: 4 inch diameter
- 10,000-lb Or more axles: 5 inch diameter
If this is the case then you will be looking at 12 x 2 inch electric drum brakes with a 5 bolt brake mounting flange pattern. You will also want to verify this by measuring the distance between the brake pad on one of your assemblies as well as the width of the shoe. I recommend going with our Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA that is self-adjusting and has received excellent customer reviews. I have attached a review video of this product where our video team member goes over how to determine the size of the brake assembly.
We also have a video of this assembly being installed on a trailer that I have attached for you to check out.
