Trailer Wiring Needed for a 2002 Ford Thunderbird

Question:

Hello, I am looking to wire up a 2002 Ford Thunderbird just to tow a small trailer for luggage. I am wondering if this would work as it has low side switching signal lights. It is also built on the same platform as the S-type from what I have researched. Thank you

What you will want to do is install a universal wiring system like the Tekonsha ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness with Install Kit # 119250KIT. This kit installs without cutting into your current wires.

You will simply locate the appropriate wire behind your tail lights housing using the included circuit tester and then clip in the correct wiring. A 12V power lead is ran to the battery itself to avoid damage to your 2002 Ford Thunderbid's electrical system.

I have attached a video of this kit being installed on a 2017 BMW X5 that you can use as a reference, but keep in mind that the wire colors will most likely not be the same. You will need to use the included circuit tester to ensure that it is wired correctly.
