What is the Difference Between the Curt Class II and Class III Hitch for 2017 Mazda CX-5
Question:
am looking at the CURT 12170 and 13315. I noticed that the class 2 is more expensive than the class III. Is it constructed differently? Higher quality? I dont need the extra capacity, but I like the designs where the receiver is more recessed under the bumper so that it is not so obvious when not being used. Do these two models differ in that respect?

Both Curt # C12170 Class II hitch and # C13315 Class III hitch custom designed to fit the 2017 Mazda CX-5. Both hitches are designed to fit up and behind the bumper of the CX-5.
The main difference between these two hitches is the Class III hitch has higher towing and tongue weight capacities and a 2 inch hitch receiver opening. The Class II uses the 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. I recommend using Class III hitch because the 2 inch receiver opening will give you more options for hitch accessories like a bike rack or a cargo carrier.
Another difference between the two hitches is the Curt Class II hitch requires you to use a stabilizer strap, like # 18050, for non-trailer loads. The Class III hitch does not require the use of a stabilizer strap.
