B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2017 Ram 3500 Dually with Factory Prep Package

Question:

We recently purchased a 2017 Dodge 3500 Dually and we found this hitch online and we like what we see. My question is can we get any 5th wheel within the weight capacity of the hitch or is it better to choose the RV before getting the hitch? Thanks

The best advice I can give in this situation is to first know the towing capacity of your 2017 Ram 3500. Because the last thing you want to do is have everything all picked out only to find that the gross trailer weight is too much for the truck. Considering the truck though there probably aren't a lot of trailers that would weigh too much but it is better safe than sorry.

Next you will want to look at hitches and trailers. If the hitch is rated lower than the truck capacity then you must go by that lower rating. In other words always go by the lowest rated component in the system. Once you know your limits you can look at trailers with gross weights that are under the lowest rated component in the system.

B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package - Dual Jaw - 25,000 lbs
Item # BWRVK3600 is a fantastic option for Rams with the factory prep package. This hitch is rated for 25,000 pounds gross trailer weight and fits right into the factory system. I have linked a video showing this for you.

The highest capacity hitches for your truck top out at 25,000 pounds and at that weight you will have many, many options for trailers (as long as the truck is also rated as high or higher).
