Recommended Replacement Tire/Wheel for Boat Trailer for Interstate Highway Travel

Question:

I have a 14 aluminum boat with 25hp outboard. I live in Florida and would like to make trips to Minnesota or Michigan and take the boat. The tires on it now are 4 lug 5.30-12 nylon Hi Run. Do you have any recommendations?

Since you want to make long-distance highway trips with your boat you will be best served by a tire that can safely handle faster highway speeds above 65-mph. The only way to do this is to purchase the tire and wheel separately and then have them mounted at a local shop.

For tire I suggest the Taskmaster 5.30R12 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C, Item # TT53012C. This tire can handle 1,050-lbs at 80-psi and it is rated for speeds up to 81-mph. This is an excellent choice so long as the weight rating is enough for your boat and trailer. This tire includes a 2-year warranty.

You have several choices style and color for a 12" wheel with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. A popular choice is the Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 12" x 4" Rim - 4 on 4 - White Powder Coat Item # AM20122. This wheel comes with a 2-year warranty.

This and all other options in your tire size are shown on the linked page. I also included two helpful articles on trailer tires.

No matter which tires you choose ALWAYS operate them at their maximum psi pressure as noted on the tire sidewall; within their weight capacity; and within their speed rating. If we do not indicate a speed specific rating for a tire that means it is 65-mph by default.
