When towing a trailer of one type with a hitch of another type some sort of adapter is needed. These adapters can sometimes increase the height of the towing set-up. One type of adapter that makes towing a 5th wheel with a gooseneck hitch as easy as it can be is a Reese Goosebox.

A Reese Goosebox is a replacement pin box for the 5th wheel trailer that bolts on to the trailer in the exact same way as a standard king pin, but it couples not to a 5th wheel hitch but to a gooseneck hitch ball in the truck bed.

The different models of Goosebox are shown on the linked page. These are replacements for specific OEM king pins on 5th wheel trailers. For instance, part # RP85FR is a bolt-on replacement for Lippert 1621, 1621HD and 0719 pin boxes and installs using the original hardware. These bolt-up in place of the king pin and their height on the trailer's mounting wings is adjustable just like a standard pin box.

Unlike other types of adapters a Goosebox does NOT increase the stress on the RV frame. It is in fact the only type of adapter that does not do so. For this reason using one will not affect your trailer's frame warranty the way other adapters can. Please refer to the linked article for more information.
